sed is a stream editor. A stream editor is used to perform basic text transformations on an input stream (a file or input from a pipeline).
Sed installs the following:

Binutils: ar, as, ld, ranlib
Coreutils: cat, chmod, expr, hostname, install, ls, mv, rm, echo, sleep, tr
Diffutils: cmp
Gawk: gawk
GCC: cc1, collect2, cpp0, gcc
Glibc: getconf
Grep: egrep, fgrep, grep
M4: m4
Make: make
Sed: sed
Texinfo: install-info, makeinfo
Prepare Sed to be compiled:
./configure --prefix=/tools |
Compile the program:
make |
This package has a test suite available which can perform a number of checks to ensure it built correctly. Should you choose to run it, the following command will do so:
make check |
Then install it and its documentation:
make install |
